Known as the biggest and best event of the year, Elliv brings music, skits, and videos together for an unforgettable and hilarious night full of outstanding performances showcasing Cedarville's talent.

Elliv first burst onto Cedarville's campus in spring of 2000. A few SGA members put the event together to highlight student filmmakers in an Academy Awards style show. With only a few unpolished acts and a small budget, the first Elliv was simple, but entertaining.

After a year off, Elliv returned in 2002 with a bigger budget and more elaborate acts. The mock awards show of the first Elliv was replaced with awards recognizing Cedarville's brightest talents. Since then, Elliv has continued to recognize these students while presenting bigger and better show-stopping acts every year.

What are we doing with Elliv this year? We're taking it back to its roots. You'll see the same first-rate performances as past years, but this year, we're bringing back the spoof and parody of Elliv awards. A program inspired by popular culture and events from the past year, Elliv 2009 will bring you recognizable songs and skits that will keep you rolling in the aisles.

With incredible staging, lighting, and special effects, Elliv 2009 will combine the best performances with the best production Cedarville offers. We guarantee a night full of fun and amazing performances you won't soon forget.

Library Worker

The Centennial Library is not just a building with a lot of books; it's the best place on campus to study. The library workers maintain a well-kept, organized space while preserving the quiet and calm atmosphere required for studying. Their mastery of the Dewey Decimal System and the intricate cataloging methods baffle the minds of students and faculty alike. Whether stamping due dates on books or restocking them, the library workers provide the proper setting necessary for students to excel in all their academic endeavors.

Nominees for this Category

Erin Hayes
Erin is no stranger to the Centennial Library. The senior has worked there four years, including summers. She attributes her librarian behavior to her father, who converted their house to a type of library. "All of our books were labeled with the appropriate Dewey codes, and we had pop quizzes every night testing our knowledge. When I actually got to college and began working here, I was more than prepared to shelve any book that came my direction."

Grace Jones
After working over two years in the library, Grace has grown accustomed to her daily tasks. Her sole desire is to win this award because "working in the library is like the Indy 500. Some days you feel like you are just going in circles. Winning this award would be like finally crossing the finish line."

Jason Moss
A three and a half year veteran worker of the library, Jason will sacrifice anything for his job, even his body. "I once got my thigh caught in the swinging-door that allows workers to step behind the counter in the Mediaplex. Pinch. Ouch." Why does he think he deserves this award? "Would there be a more appropriate compensation for a campus-worker who has handed-out heaps of free glue, crayons, markers, rulers, and scissors to every education major under the sun? I deserve it. I want it."

Campus Icon

All too often, college campuses possess no real character or identity. The icons of Cedarville University strive to set the campus apart from all the rest. These icons are there year in and year out without ever taking the day off. They suffer through rain, snow, and high force winds just to make Cedarville a more welcoming and personal place. They painfully endure countless photos taken by students and parents, as well as numerous scavenger hunts, where students climb and jump all over them. Thanks to their sacrifice, this campus is a brighter, and more personal space.

Nominees for this Category

Seal
The Seal serves a far greater purpose than simply to look nice on the wall. It welcomes all who enter the chapel and acts as a perfect meeting location. Without this vital icon, where would students meet and exchange books they bought on Classifieds?

Dixon
A beloved replica of Cedarville’s chancellor, Dr. Paul Dixon, this statue epitomizes all that Cedarville University stands for- a warm smile and a loving outstretched hand of Christian kindness. He happily poses for pictures and is always there to lend a listening ear.

Adam
Also known as the “Fallen Man” statue, Adam not only serves as a representation of man’s sin, but it also functions as the only artwork along the sidewalk from the SSC to the BTS. Hundreds of students gaze upon the Fallen Man every day and even try to recreate his artful pose. The sidewalk would be an empty place without this classic sculpture.

Campus Barista

Nothing beats a steaming hot Vecinos mocha on a cold winter day, but the hands that prepared the liquid comfort are often ignored. The baristas work tirelessly to satisfy your caffeine craze. Whether you want a Minty Kiss or a strawberry smoothie, those Vecinos workers are there to create your favorite coffee creations. Their ability to remember countless drink combinations baffles the minds of many, and their latte-making technique is the envy of coffeehouses everywhere.

Nominees for this Category

Amy Gredy
Amy can often be seen behind the Vecinos bar brewing up all kinds of coffee concoctions. Her ability to remember the name of any drink combination on the menu makes her a top-notch Vecinos worker. Known in the Vecinos community for her flawlessly blended smoothies, Amy combines just enough juice and ice for a deliciously fruity treat.

Jeff Antioho
Jeff's excitement and exuberance make every Vecinos visit a pleasant experience. His best attribute as a Vecinos barista is his perfectly blended latte with just the right amount of foam. Stop by Vecinos to watch his expert whipped cream technique.

Rachel Torres
Ever since her first sip at the tender age of five, Rachel has been addicted to coffee. "It was love at first swallow." Therefore, a job as a Vecinos barista was her only choice as an on-campus job. "Without me, a lot of people would be suffering from caffeine headaches, and a lot of people would be tired and cranky. So really I'm more than just a barista, I'm the campus joy giver, energy provider, and all around fun-loving Vecinos friend."

Campus Emailer

On a campus where the average student receives about thirty emails a day, grammar and writing techniques get lost in the confusion of an overloaded inbox. But some campus emailers stand out as titans of the emailing world. These expert emailers mastered the art of electronic correspondence and expertly craft informative emails that notify the student body of important information while retaining the grammatical standards of an English professor. They set an example for emailers across campus.

Nominees for this Category

Deb Bissett
Serving as voice of the theatre department, Deb Bissett ensures that the entire campus knows about upcoming senior theatre projects and plays. Her main goal for the emails is to "beat out the competition for what to attend on campus." She thinks she should win the award because her "e-mails are prettier. We give a visual and written message to you with our graphics because they enhance the storyline."

Marilyn Ware
Known for her exquisite email poetry, Marilyn Ware informs the student body of the goings on in the campus safety world. Why does she spend so much time into crafting such artful poetry? As she says, "so that everyone knows we're bored down here." Whether it involves parking permits or stolen bikes, people across campus eagerly anticipate the next installment of her work."

Jeff Reep
Where would CU students find out about internships without Jeff Reep? His information about open jobs and internships keep students employed and give them seemingly endless opportunities to fill their résumé. He attributes his ability to send out many emails to his "new geriatric keyboard and mouse."

Computer Services

With hundreds of computers in dorm rooms, labs, and classrooms, a dedicated team of qualified computer technicians is vital to ensure that all the computers on campus work in proper order. The highly trained computer service workers fix every computer complication imaginable. Whether it's a fried CPU or a printer that's out of toner, the computer service workers are there to help. All you have to do is submit a computer service request, and they'll be at your door in no time to fix all your PC problems.

Nominees for this Category

John Milliman
As a committed computer service technician, John selflessly enters countless trash-filled, ant infested dorm rooms to provide quality computer service. His favorite parts of his job include "having to blow off an inch of dust to work on a computer and walking in to a room and being pummeled by a smell that not even a mother could love." Through his commitment to PC repair, all student residents enjoy fully functioning computers.

Nick Hendricks
While on duty as a BTS computer lab assistant, Nick expertly refills the printers with paper and toner and aids in students’ computer related crises. Prior to beginning his job, Nick received training in the art of “how to turn on a computer, how to properly stick paper in, and how to properly place our name on the name tag holders at the beginning of a shift.” He is now affectionately known as one of the few lab assistants who allow students to take the lab’s stapler back to their computer instead of standing at the desk.

Tricia DeKorne
Tricia provides a smiling face in computers labs that are often filled with stress and tension. In order to better serve her fellow students, she trained in speech pathology "It's very important that one is able to clearly pronounce, 'The lab will be closing in 10 minutes.'" She also studied conflict resolution "for those sticklers who refuse to leave."

Campus Scanner

Each day, thousands of Cedarville students scan their ID as the enter chapel and Chuck's, as well as to receive food from the Hive. The devotion of the campus scanners adds order and balance to a scanning-dependent school. These dedicated scanners work relatively unnoticed by the student body, but their extreme commitment to their jobs allows CU students to eat and attend chapel every day of the week.

Nominees for this Category

Greg Gallagher (Chapel)
Few chapel scanners could ever compare to Greg's professionalism and competence. Not only does he scan people at twice the rate of most scanners, he also remains at his post several minutes after chapel begins so those latecomers do not have to take a chapel cut. He defines all that a chapel scanner should be.

Rachel Finkbeiner (Hive)
She handles transfer meals, Chuck's bucks, even cash! Rachel performs every task in the Hive with expertise and finesse. She believes "the Hive is the highest calling" of campus scanners because the Hive has variety. I not only get to swipe their cards but also talk to people, use Chuck's bucks, eat cookies and ice cream, and fill the condiment bar. Basically the other scanner positions can't hold up against the awesomeness where I work."

Laura Anfang (Chucks)
Not everyone can handle the scanning pressures of the post-chapel rush at Chuck’s, but Laura tackles the challenge on a daily basis. She said her normal pre-scanning workout includes “going to the weight room every day and curling the insane amount of 10 pounds and practicing smiling to have just the right heart warming smile to greet the prospective diners.” Any regular Chuck’s-goer will agree that Laura’s exercises have paid off in big ways.

Postal Worker

Few things excite a college student more than receiving a letter or package in the mail. The passionate post office workers make this excitement possible. Their extensive knowledge of the differences between boxes, parcels, and packages keep the mailroom neat and tidy, while their attentiveness provides students with quick and efficient service. Just ring the buzzer and they'll come right away… if not, ring it again- they may not hear it the first time.

Nominees for this Category

Charity Hancock
In her second year as a post office worker, Charity has become an expert in all things mail related. She can even place a definition on the ever-confusing term parcel. “A parcel is a smaller package. Its name is a derivative of a French word meaning ‘not as important as a package.’” Her favorite part of her job is making people’s day brighter. “I like to refer to myself as a blessings-giver. Just spreading the love, you know?”

Jenny Stern
An expert in the mailroom, Jenny has delivered every kind of mail from lamp stands to muffin wrappers. She often goes beyond the call of duty and helps frustrated students grapple with the temperamental ATM in front of the post office. "More than once, I have valiantly leapt over tall counters and snatched the precious debit card away from the hungry ATM. You'll find your card gently placed in your post office mailbox awaiting your return."

Lisa Gray
Lisa's keen eye and quick buzzer response time sets her apart as a postal worker. She feels her biggest accomplishment as a postal worker is "the fact I know 95% of the student body by first and last name without their knowledge." She attributes her success as a post office worker to her "unwavering commitment to serve the Cedarville family at the ring of a bell or the push of a buzzer."

Intramural Team

Dodgeball, walleyball, table tennis. You won't find any of these sports at the intercollegiate level. These activities only come intramural style. The dedicated athletes don't play for guts and glory, but for sheer love of the game. Though intramural sports are sometimes looked down upon as the "common man's activity," the strength and athleticism of these teams rival those of the varsity Yellow Jackets.

Nominees for this Category

John Hegarty
A member of famed intramural teams such as the Eliminators, Habitual Stunters, the Wallers, and the Calvinists, John has played over eleven different intramural sports. “Every week, I sit in my classes, anxiously awaiting the evening when Intramurals take place. When my classes are finally done, it is 100% concentration on whatever game I have that evening.” Only a finely tuned athlete could keep up with the rigors of his training schedule.

Amy Garner
Along with the usual intramural sports, such as dodgeball and volleyball, Amy also competes in nontraditional sports such as polo and underwater basket weaving in Cedar Lake. Why does she want the award? “Consider all of the training… uphill both ways, across the sideways rain, through the snow in my bare feet. I still train. Who has the most motivation? Who has the strongest will? I do!”

Scott Bardakjy
Scott's determination and dedication to his sports encourage others in the intramural world. Though his intramural career stats are a grim 3-11, he continues to muster up the energy to go out and play every week. Ever since his freshman year when his Frisbee teamed only scored four points all season, he has used the hope of winning and the enjoyment of the game to spur him on. "Whether winning or losing, I've just had a great time playing on all these teams!"

  • What is Elliv?

Elliv is an annual show that combines music, videos and skits for a night full of fun and entertainment.

  • Why should I go to Elliv?

Elliv is the biggest event of the year. It is the only time when you'll see real dancing on the chapel stage and musicians rocking out to artists such as the Foo Fighters and Family Force 5. Special effects and massive stage setups transform the chapel into an all-out end of the year party.

  • What should I wear?

That all depends on you. You can dress up as your favorite superhero or break out that prom dress you haven't worn since twelfth grade. As long as it's in dress code, it will work for Elliv.

You do. All of the funding for Elliv comes from ticket sales.

  • What songs will be performed this year?
